United Nations University implements Joomla on its Online Learning website छापें ई-मेल
ImageThis month the UNU Online Learning team unveiled the Joomla version of our website. We have been working on the transition from the existing html site to the new Joomla site for a couple of months and basically we wanted to retain the exact look and feel. We had evaluated a few content management systems before selecting Joomla. At the end, the flexibility offered by Joomla made it by far the best choice.

The transition was managed by our Creative Director, Sean Wood, who also uses Joomla on his own site (http://www.motionid.com) and Kouji Tokubo set up the server.

I think we are the first UN organisation to formally adopt Joomla and we hope in the longer term it will be implemented more widely in the UNU and also by our project partners across the globe.

This month, December 2005, UNU Online Learning launched a new, renovated website implementing the Joomla content managment system. This is the first time that Joomla has been adopted by a United Nations organisation.

The choice of Joomla was made after an evaluation of a number of content management systems. Essentially, Joomla offered all the features and the flexibility we needed to completely replicate the look and feel of the old html site.

In fact, we are confident that return visitors to the UNU Online Learning website might not even notice the change. However, using Joomla has completely altered how we work and update the site.

We are just beginning to explore the potential of this powerful new tool and we hope that it might enable us to provide timely information to our project partners and increase the opportunities for more online collaboration within the UNU.
